Over the past few months, an 827-kilometre optic-fibre cable has been slowly laid along the ocean floor between Fiji and Tonga.

For the Kingdom of Tonga, the arrival of this cable – and with it, high-speed broadband – is huge. The potential advancements for Tongans in education, health and agriculture for one of the most remote nations on the planet are enormous. Tonga will go from having some of the worst internet services in the world to being a truly connected member of the global community.
