A recently-born female giant panda cub in Washington has finally been named following three weeks of online voting.
The baby panda’s name "Bao Bao" was announced during a ceremony. It means “precious” or “treasure”. More than 123-thousand people from around the world participated in the voting and chose from among 5 Chinese names. In line with Chinese tradition, the naming ceremony took place 100 days after the birth of the tiny cub. Bao Bao will make her public debut in a month, but till then visitors can spot the baby and her mother on the zoo's panda cam. The adorable animals are one of the world's most endangered species, and only 16-hundred of them are known to be living in the wild.
