Continuing the Conversation Webinar, November 19, 2013
Speaker: Beate Ritz, MD PhD
Chair, Department of Epidemiology
UCLA Fielding School of Public Health
Is there a link between an individual’s genetic makeup and certain pesticides that make some people more susceptible to Parkinson’s disease? That’s the question Dr. Beate Ritz is studying. The answer likely is yes. In this webinar she will discuss how she uses genetic and geographic information to study links between pesticide exposure and risk for Parkinson’s disease. Her research is uncovering important gene-environment interactions - that is, the ways in which genetic background and environmental exposures can influence a person’s susceptibility to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, childhood cancers and autism.
