Jonathan Alexander answers the question, "What does responsivity mean to me?"
I'm Jonathan Alexander. I'm a professor of English at the University of California, Irvine, and I'm delighted to have this opportunity to respond to the term "responsivity." Actually, I think responsivity is much more than just responding. Responsivity brings to my mind the necessity of being aware of our own mental processes of responding. When we are responding to something—whether an experience, an idea—we need to be cognizant of the mechanisms of response, how we think through our response, what kinds of expectations, what kinds of predispositions, what kinds of biases we bring to any response that we give. That is what responsivity is to me.
