John Duffy answers the question, "What does responsivity mean to me?"
Hi, I'm John Duffy from the University of Notre Dame, and I've been asked to talk for thirty seconds about responsivity. Responsivity, explicit in the term, is that we're responding to someone else. But implicit is that before we can respond, we have to listen. So what responsivity means to me, or what it suggests to me, is a kind of deep listening, a kind of profound listening, where we really try to understand the other person and the arguments that they're making and whatever it is they're trying to tell us—because we can't respond until we first have listened.
