Urban Scapes Art - Industrial Surfaces of the Earth
Visual Installation by E
Together with Jean Paul I was searching & zooming with google earth for some rooftops (these huge letters, made with aerosol or roller brushes, you can see on different roofs all around the world)... but unfortunately we couldn't find any of them...
then - after "flying" hours and hours above industrial- urban-, areas - I suddenly realized: the art we were looking for, already extists! it's the industrial landscape for itself. the the infrastructure, these silo pattern - this is art. or may be design as well. made by engineers, architects, traffic planners, industrial designers, actually by everybody who was in building measures the last decades. (Wenn man es genau nimmt, ist auch die Aktion von Piloten, Parkplatzwächter, Eisenbahn-Rangierer und sogar die Menge an Passanten der Inhalt.) It is quasi - analogue, real - mapped on the surface of our earth.
So I made screenshots from the best urban surfaces - first of all harbours, refineries, powerplants, airports, highways, sewage treatment plants. My work was only to zoom in or out and to screw the google-earth-views to fit them best into the frame. And I used them in my vj-performances. With a very positive public feedback.
But I saw, that the best way to show that powerful ready-made-surface-of-the-earth-art is in slow moves and with slow picture changes. That's why I made the decision to make an installation.
the Mapping Festival - the very first choice for this project.
