Qualifying the likelihood of your future plans
Special commission by WGSN for their W1 Air Art Project space, London
Materials: 1440 yards of multicoloured shoe lace, screws, vinyl and 150+ employees and visitors of WGSN
Description:Invited to design a work that would reflect the employees and business of WGSN- trend forecasters, I inverted the task- asking them to reflect on themselves. FORECASTING ME, is a participatory data plot point art work, illustrating individuals future aspirations likelihood and painting a portrait of a community. Participants were asked to select a spool of shoe lace that correlated with their Astrological sign, and then plot points on the X and Y axis of the wall, joining the points in a weaving graph line. The X axis listed potential circumstances from the imminent to distant future- from will you have mayonnaise in your lunch tomorrow to will you endow the arts in your will. The Y axis listed the quantifiable likelihood- including The Odds are Good but the Goods are Odd or Nearly Impossible. As individuals added their graph line, the wall filled creating a data set and an abstract woven painting. The work was made on November 7th, and will be up at WGSN till February 3rd, 2014.
