In 2013, the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth, NZSM presented his three act opera Il Corsaro – a tale of high adventure, of pirates and plunder, flame and blood, nobility and cruelty, true love and impatient passion. The four-performance season, with a double cast of principals taking two performances each, was presented in The Opera House, Wellington on July 26, 27, 28 and 30. (This video is from the performance on Sunday 28 July).
Classical Performance Voice students were accompanied by the NZSM Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Young. The opera was directed by Sara Brodie, assisted by Frances Moore with set design from Tony De Goildi, costumes by Daphne Erikson, and lighting by Hannah Rogers.
