Willets Point businesses are in the process of being evicted - but, without a relocation plan, where will they go?
Willets Point is an area in Queens, NYC that employs over 2,000 people in mostly small, immigrant run businesses. Since 2008, the city has been acquiring land and acting as landlord to many of these tenant businesses. The city is now clearing them to make way for a controversial redevelopment plan, recently passed by the city council, that prioritizes the construction of a mega mall on adjacent parkland.
