Gypsy Soul is a project that aims to document the life and migration of Gypsy musicians from Turkey, India, Balkans, Romania, France and Spain.
The project sets out to capture the essence of Gypsy culture by undertaking a journey through space and time, through culture and above all through music as a means of expression, historical legacy, a nexus of identity and as the most famous contribution to the world of this ethnic group. From Andalusia to Rajasthan –from where they originated in the 10th century, this photographic journey is a protest against the fact that 12 million people continue to suffer marginalization and persecution. The challenge of the project is to use the still image to show their
music, not simply as entertainment but as oral culture, a unifying element and a way of expression of a people that has been able to preserve its roots in a globalized world.
