Studio Hangloose, in collaboration with Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), has transformed this year’s holiday season at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport into something special and unique, linking the virtual world of the web with the physical world of the airport terminal.
Two “Social Christmas Trees”, decorated with spherical luminous LEDs, have been installed in T1 and T3 Departure Halls. Through a dedicated web app (xmas.adr.it) members of the public are able to turn on a Christmas light in real time.
The experience is not just limited to passengers at Rome airport, anybody can interact with the Social Christmas Trees from anywhere in the world and view the results live via webcam.
In addition users are able to post their own seasons greetings on ADR’s Facebook Page and share them through their favourite social network and get their friends and family to vote. The message with the most votes will win a weekend for two people in a European capital city.
Based on the concept of the Internet of Things the initiative is one of the first of its kind in Italy, both in terms of idea and scale, and the result of months of planning and execution by the staff of Studio Hangloose, a Rome-based creative agency with over 20 years experience.
2 Christmas trees (6m and 4m)
2 km of wiring
Over 200 LED lights
The initiative will be running until January 14th 2014.
