California Trout is dedicated the protection and enhancement of the McCloud River in Northern California. In fall of 2013 CalTrout was involved with the Department of Fish and Wildlife on a Mark and Recapture study on the Nature Conservancy stretch of the McCloud River. The study was originally conducted in 1998 to help gain a baseline population estimate for wild Rainbow Trout. Due to turbidity and clarity issues on the Mac it was deemed that a rod and reel survey was the best means to capture this data. The original study was replicated here to update info for the department to be used in management decisions to help protect and enhance this magnificent population of wild McCloud River rainbow trout.
