The old cobblestone streets of Bogota's La Candelaria district are only dimly lit. When all of a sudden a group of four little soldiers comes marching and chanting, it is a surprise. Of course these are not the unfortunate child soldiers recruited to do the killing on behalf of adult war lords. They remind me more of the tin toy soldiers kids used to play with in the preelectronic age. These four know their street, fleeing to the side when a car approaches, and reassembling when it's gone. Would you trust your four-year olds to do that?
