250 million years ago the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea were connected by a big channel that covered south and east of the Iberian peninsula. Materials which were settled out at depth emerged in some areas because of tectonic forces. Afterwards, the constant atmospheric action on limestone modelled one of the most impressive karstic landscapes: the "Torcal" of Antequera, in Malaga, Spain.
