The Data Futures Lab is an experimental space for instigating new approaches to data stewardship challenges. It provides funding, scaffolding for collaboration, convening around emerging ideas, and a place to workshop approaches to data stewardship which give greater control and agency to people.

Each year, the Data Futures Lab hosts a cohort of organizations building platforms committed to rethinking the way they collect, store, use, and share data, with a focus on protecting individual data rights and creating collective data value. We support the cohort through grants, mentorship, workshops, and product and project resources.

This year we’re working with projects building technology platforms that mobilize communities to contribute their data for a shared benefit. Projects hail from India, Switzerland, and beyond, and will address issues like health research, online gender-based violence, and broadband inequalities.
