You are about to watch a wonderful lesson where students in Angela Koerner and Jeanne Keller's 7th grade English classes at John Barrett Middle School, experience an arts integrated lesson on how tone is so important in writing and communication. They wrote scripts, cut them into single line strips, shuffled them and then used voice inflection, facial expression and body language to tell their non-sensical story. The result is knowledge that goes beyond the conventional assignment about context, non-verbal awareness, writer's tools, communication, collaboration and creativity. Not to mention the fun involved. These students can't wait for the next assignment. ELA and Theater skills fit elegantly to teach depth of knowledge and application. Very Common Core.
