W. Steves Ring, M.D., former Chair of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and his faculty have helped place the institution’s survival rates of heart and lung transplant patients among the highest in the country. He discusses the development of UT Southwestern’s Heart and Lung Transplant program and research performed in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery’s laboratory to develop a cardiac preservation device to prevent damage to organs during procurement and transport during the January 9, 2007, President’s Lecture.
