We recently held our third annual Employment Extravaganza to celebrate the accomplishments of our neighbors who work with us in our Workforce Pipeline. The event also recognizes the employers and partners who make connections to work.
In today’s video, you’ll meet Camella Roberts-Hunt, who received EBDI's Most Outstanding Training Graduate of the Year award. Camella is a lifelong resident of East Baltimore, who took advantage of the EBDI pipeline and Humanim's customer service training to re-enter the workforce.
From the beginning, Camella has been an inspiration to everyone around her. While finishing Humanim's customer service training program, she was hired at the new Walgreens store, just a few blocks from her house.
Camella explains why she decided to re-enter the workforce after retiring:
"Everybody thinks that when you reach a certain age you stay home and watch the stories. Well, I wanted to have my own story. My grandkids started school and were doing well. I was left home alone. So I decided that I wanted to come back out after being retired, get back to work and be close to the kids. They built the wonderful new state-of-the-art Henderson Hopkins School, where my grandkids will be attending. It's only two blocks away from where I'm working at Walgreens. Everything fits together just perfectly."
As we enter the holiday season, we’re grateful to EBDI’s employers and partners who make our work possible.
As Camella puts it:
"I recommend to anyone that's in Baltimore City to take advantage of all the opportunities that they're giving you now… To be acclimated back into the workforce, in the city where you live. And help build out the city again… to let it be what it once was. Anybody that has lived here for a lifetime knows what it was and what it can be again."
Thank you for reading this week’s newsletter and we hope you will take the time to watch the rest of Camella's story.
