Michael Combs is ruled by craft and sport. Spawn of a family of outdoorsmen, Combs has created cleverly contrary objects and questionable trophies to decorate the man-cave of the absurd. Beautifully made and delicately finished, they are objects of contemplation. What is heroic? What is masculine? What are the relics of our aggression, and why are they being lovingly displayed? Combs builds these enigmas with an obsessive tinkerer’s zeal.
With the theme of “Living Creatively on the East End,” 10 members of the community are invited to present 20 slides at 20 seconds each, yielding six minutes and 40 seconds per presenter. This is a great opportunity to establish new relationships, learn about local resources, and hear from the many artists, writers, musicians, gardeners, farmers, baymen, winemakers, chefs, designers, architects, and other creative professionals who comprise our region.
