This movie, “Dying Dunes,” was created to raise awareness about sand mining and the wildlife that lives in Michigan Sand Dunes. This film was made for a joint Science and English school project with the requirement of incorporating Stop Animation and other film techniques into our final project. Some other filming techniques I used were GarageBand music and some dialogue. Our movie had to inform viewers about one of four topics and persuade viewers about one side of our topic. The topic choices were Mercury in Fish, Salmon, Sand Mining, and Wolf Hunting. I hope that my movie teaches viewers that the sand dunes are an important ecosystem component and that they are the home to many important endangered animals, such as the Piping Plover and many other birds and plants. I also hope that people realize that the sand dunes need protecting soon, before they are gone.
