Superfortress B-29 44-61999 "Over Exposed" crashed at Higher Shelf Stones Bleaklow on 3rd November 1948.
There was very low cloud all over the Peak District and when Captain Langdon P. Tanner dropped the nose of
the B29 through the cloud to verify his position, it is doubtful that the aircraft's commander ever saw the ground that he hit. It was only about 15 meters below the peak at 610 meters,
Many aircraft crashed in this area during and after the second world war and I have visited most for them.
Every year during November a memorial service is held here on this remote part of the high ground for all those that lost the lives. I hope this video reflects that day amongst all the wreckage that remains..
