Edited performance of Rosalind Hall at the White Space, Castlemaine (Australia), the culmination of a month long Punctum residency in May 2013.
The piece responds to the resonant acoustics of the space where I spent many days playing and developing contextual techniques. I explored how the space can be an extension of my body, the point where my saxophone evaporates from consciousness as do body parts, and how the music I create can transform spaces and expose inner worlds.
I used multiple speakers, volume pedals and equalisation to form undulating feedback, difference tones and breath marks with the feet. I used multiple microphones on my horn and throat to amplify my nervous pulse and labouring breath, exposing sounds and states of a performer often hidden. I worked to uncover an inner world transformed by sound and expression and a shared experience of the transparency and dependency between body, instrument, life systems and presence.
