As the 100 year old son of a Sicilian immigrant, John lived through the Great Depression, World War II and reveled in stories of how his immigrant father, a Sicilian barber, cut the hair of President Dwight D Eisenhower. As a gag, John tells doctors his health is the result of consuming hot peppers, olive oil and apples all his life. His wife Connie was well known for her delicious apple pies. John credits the maintenance of his intellect to devouring crossword puzzles daily.
