Caught a magical sunrise at a place called Ladder Beach on Saipan. It was breathtaking.
Video capture on the FZ35/38 has vertical streaks when taking footage with a bright light source. To work around this issue, I used an ND filter and shot the sunrise footage in custom movie mode, with the shutter priority set to 1/30. I got the ND filter recommendation from this video on Vimeo by Blueman:
It doesn't completely hide the streaks, as you'll see when the sunrise is at it's highest intensity. There's a slight silhouette of the vertical streak, but it's better than having the streaks in there.
I love this camera. It takes great photos and video. And with this solution, it's made the video capture even better. It's perfect for an amateur like me who is not interested in DSLRs (or rather I don't have the budget for it) and wanted to upgrade from a compact P&S camera.
