The work is a 15 minute animation that references changes that occurred in art, architecture, music, writing and dance during the period between the turn of the 20th century and the 1930s. The story moves through the era using dancers, architecture and a linear narrative developed around two writers of the period, Friedrich Nietzsche and Carlo Collodi, author of The Adventures of Pinocchio. We were able to do the piece as a result of a residency at the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Advanced Computing Center of Arts and Design and the dance department, all at Ohio State University. Dancers in the video were scanned using a whole body scanner and the resulting scans tied to motion-captured choreography. To abstract their appearance and also as a further reference to Pinocchio we articulated their limbs and turned them into marionettes.
