ALL CITY Selected for September 2013 World Premiere at Raindance Film
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept 16, 2013
Martinez Gallery is pleased to announce the September 28, 2013 world
premiere of ALL CITY, an uncompromising portrait of New York graffiti's
protagonists: their ambition, their passions and their shared obsession with
legitimacy and legacy. It chronicles the graffiti movement through firsthand
accounts from reigning masters BRAIL, CASE 2, CoCo 144, JOE 182, KEZ 5, LES,
RATE, SKUF, and VFR.
Graffiti is particular. It's urban. It's drenched in music and paint: the
literal backdrop for what happens in the neighborhoods and subway tunnels of
the city. ALL CITY is a gritty homage to graffiti's kings - writers who have
tagged buildings in all five of New York's boroughs at great physical,
legal, and social cost; writers who are both outcasts and artists, whose
work has been described by New York Times art critic Holland Cotter as
".alternately brash and delicate, exclamatory and retrospective."
These men seek both obscurity and recognition. They value authenticity and
create their own personas. They are true American renegades: a band of
invisible brothers calling on complexities of class, race and identity that
are almost impossible to articulate, except when they go to work on the
walls of New York City.
ALL CITY has been named an Official Selection at Raindance Film Festival,
which runs from September 25 - October 5 in central London's Piccadilly
Circus. The film will be screened on September 28 at the Vue Cinema
Piccadilly (Apollo), presenting audiences with the high stakes story of
graffiti's vanguard: the enigmatic and explosively creative artists who have
shaped and maintained graffiti culture for the last 45 years.
