It was a sweltering hot summer night in the tropics but an aspiring group of winter sports stars were carving it up on a bed of ice.
For the first time ever, the group from All Abilities Mackay strapped on skates and set their wheelchairs out onto the temporary rink at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The rink was assembled in Mackay two summers ago but at that time, the consistency of the ice was not suitable for wheelchairs. But not this summer!
Living in a regional town like Mackay, people often say it’s boring or there’s not much to do.
But when all members of the community are able to join in on something completely different, physical and fun, like ice-skating, I beg to differ.
Here’s to a chilly tropical Queensland summer!
