Colorado State University (CSU: colostate.edu) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; irri.org) are collaborating to better understand which genes control for the inedible parts of rice, and how this 'rice straw' may be turned into bioenergy, rather than be burned or wasted.

Two of the major collaborators are:

Dr. Hei Leung (irri.org/about-us/our-people/experts/hei-leung)

Dr. Jan Leach (bspm.agsci.colostate.edu/people-button/faculty/jan-leach/)

The funding has been provided by a USAID-IRRI linkage grant and a U.S. Dept. of Energy/USDA joint grant.
