South Africa’s post-apartheid comedy scene has been shaken up by Late Night News, a parody TV show inspired by The Daily Show that takes potshots at the young democracy’s power players. It has been around for about four years and is the only show of its kind on South African television.
The weekly program, hosted by Loyiso Gola, was nominated for an international Emmy Award. (The show did not win.) Goya and his comedy sidekicks, David Kibuuka and Conrad Koch, who is the man behind the show’s puppet character Chester, were in New York last week to attend the ceremony.
