In 2013, Melissa Lucashenko delivered the ASA's annual Colin Simpson Memorial Lecture at the NSW State Library. In her delivery she examined the portrayal of Indigenous characters in Australian film and literature, and called for more Aboriginal heroes, Aboriginal Everymen and Everywomen, not just noble savages or doomed innocents.
