In recent months, the debate over how to fix the broken health care system in the United States has taken center stage. Cuts in benefits and rising numbers of those who are uninsured show us that we need a system that takes care of its patients, not uses their illness for profit. However, Obama and Congress continue to bow to the interests of big insurance companies as they refuse to consider the option of single payer health care.
Following the debate surrounding healthcare reform can be confusing, especially when changes to plans occur daily and campaigns of misinformation are encouraged by the media. This talk hosted by International Socialist Organization on October 29th, 2009 at Portland State University attempts to decipher how some of the proposed reforms would affect the current system, why single payer is the best option, and what we can do now to demand it.
