During November and December 2013 our production spent 5 weeks in far north Coral Sea and Torres Strait gethering 3D footage for our 3D IMAX film: Sea of Love.
We have captured a lot of new and previously not filmed material, including rare and spectacular spawning of large Porites coral colony. We were lucky to film both male and female colonies spawning. This spectacular event has rarely been observed and having it filmed in 3D using specialised optics able to resolve IMAX screen resolutions makes us very excited.
This HD preview on Vimeo doesn't make it justice due to high compression and resolution limitations. It should really be enjoyed in full 4k resolution on a giant IMAX 3D screen.
The footage and all images were captured with two 5k RED Epic Cameras using 3Deep underwater housing and a matched pair of Nikon Nikonos 15mm lenses.
