'A Golden Moment Photo Exhibition'
A moment is all it takes to change a persons life. In August 2013, 33 Australian Short Statured People represented Australia wearing Green and Gold at the World Dwarf Games in East Lansing, Michigan.
Photographers, Alison and Margherita are sharing 33 of the best moments of each Australia athlete.
A golden moment is not just about winning gold medals or winning the most medals. It's about the personal achievements that where made by athletes, parents, coaches, organizers and even the photographers themselves during this grant event.
Arts Access Victoria is immensely proud to be a major sponsor of ‘A Golden Moment’, an exhibition by Melbourne and Albury/Wondga photographers, Margherita Coppolino and Ali Ryan. A ‘Golden Moment’ captures decisive moments of Australian team competing in Global sporting life in a fresh and provocative way, through a series of photographs that render disability and otherness visible, powerful, and part of an international sporting landscape.
Arts Access Victoria is dedicated to extending the cultural participation of people with a disability as artists, arts workers and audiences. Closely aligned with this ambition, ‘A Golden Moment’ captures the aspiration of sporting participation without barriers and extends the notion of sporting achievement, thereby challenging the social and political dialogue about community membership and citizenship.
As Australia contemplates a once in a generation social reform in the form of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the stories and representation of Australians with disability have never been so important. ‘A Golden Moment’ is a major contribution to these stories.
Arts Access Victoria congratulates Margherita Coppolino and Ali Ryan on ‘A Golden Moment’ and celebrates the outstanding achievements of short statured sporting athletes representing Australia in the 2013 World Dwarf Games.
