Three independent South African creatives and filmmakers travelled to the FISAHARA Festival in 2012. They lived in the refugee camps and this forms the backdrop for the documentary they shot about Western Sahara – the last colony in Africa. The Saharawi people are currently colonized by the Moroccan regime and the documentary reveals the media blockage imposed on the situation, the plight of women and children in the refugee camps, the ongoing youth movement and the war that is currently raging in the occupied territories.
The documentary also takes a look at the situation of the people that are living in harsh conditions in the Algerian desert. Most importantly, the documentary intends to reveal a solidarity movement between South Africa, Algeria and Western Sahara, and an ongoing plea for the autonomy of the people of Western Sahara; thus exposing the world to this inhumane and unexplicable situation.
