this video is part of my admission process for the Singularity University. Here I talk, among other things, about "the Open Factory" project been developed at Pedro Terra LAB and my sailing passion.

My greatest passion in life is actually very simple.
I like to build stuff.
I don't like to buy it.
Is Just not Fun.
I like to build the stuff that I need.
To explain this a little better I will tell you some of my history and show you my Lab.
The first time I set foot in a sailboat I knew that I needed to learn how to sail.
I didn't had money to buy a boat, so I downloaded some plans from the internet and start working on it.
it took my two years to build it, but it payed off.
I finally learned how to sail and it was in a boat that I builded my self.
This is the CNC I use in my lab.
I builded it with some friends in 2012
Our strategy to make it was very simple.
we would meet at fridays, drink a beer, chat a little and eventually do some welding.
After six months the Machine was ready.
When we first started, I actually didn't think it would work.
but it actually did, and really well.
It was clear to me that this was the future.
With the cnc working full speed, I realized that it could build for me all the other necessary machines to complete my workshop.
This is how "the open factory" project was born .
The idea is simple:
One person build a CNC, and then, the CNC build the rest of the factory.
Now, if we share this projects online using an open source hardware license, all this machines will naturally evolve using the collective intelligent available online.
Empowering people with knowledge that allows them to develop their own open source factory, seems to me as a great way to create a cleaner, cheaper, healthier and better, manufacturing industry.
By diminishing the cost to create a factory, I believe that we are incentivising entrepreneurship and allowing people as well as communities to innovate at their on needs.
