This video contains the remarks Dr. Beny Primm delivered at a program in his honor given by the National Development Research Institutes at the Masonic Lodge at 71 West 23rd Street on January 15, 2014. Dr. Primm is an expert on substance abuse treatment as well as HIV and AIDS prevention and has been an advisor to the National Drug Policy Office from the early 1970s to the present. During the ceremony he looked back over his stewardship of the Addiction Research and Treatment Corporation and organization he founded in 1969 and served, as it’s executive director until his retirement two years ago. He is credited with developing a holistic approach to drug treatment, what he calls, “One stop shopping,” where clients can get treated for drug dependency, get services for mental health and medical issues all under one roof. Dr. Primm thanked his many colleagues, friends and family who assisted him over nearly fifty years. “No man is an island,” he told them.
