I strapped my Arbor longboard to my Fairdale skateboard pannier and rode my bike for an hour to Lafrenier Park in Metaire - a neighboring community to New Orleans. After scouring their Website the only "No Skateboards" statement was the area in and around the carousel. My desire was to skate the 2 mile fitness track that just got a nice coat of tarmac and even a small hill or two. However...NO SKATING! on signs along the path.
So I skated around on the concrete walkways and roadways going cla-clack, cla-clack, cla-clack until I got tired of hearing (and feeling) that. I happened upon another longboarder out there who was just as mortified that the best surface was off limits, narrow, and under heavy use from runners and walkers - so no way to just bomb it and take our chances. We rode a section of the forbidden path for one minute just to feel what we were missing. At least I made a new friend for my effort cycling to that awful place.
This video makes Lafrenier Park look much better than it really is for longboarding. I will use this vid to remind me not to bother going there again.
