The concept behind Undartground is pretty simple, it's a sort of consignment store through which artists and designers can sell their work. Julien and graffiti artist Real curates what is featured and have a focus on selling and promoting local artists. They provide a platform for them to connect with their peers and expand. Undartground puts together events, partners with brands and local businesses which allows those local artists to shine on a larger scale. Their business model works pretty well, they take a percentage of all sales and they reinvest the money to expand and in terms of promotion they rely on word of mouth, online or not, press coverage and exposure through the different commissioned work they have done.
It's located in the part of Marseille called "Le panier", a typically Mediterranean district with colour-washed facades and one of the most beautiful part of the city. The hotel "Au vieux panier" with their artistic rooms is located in this district, Tilt decorated one and I can't believe I didn't manage to sleep one night there. Anyway back to subject in hand, Undartground. Listen to Julien and Real talk about their experience running the shop, get their 2 cent of the city and enjoy some of the work of Marseilles' finest street artists and designers.
