The “Zentrum Kreuzberg” at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin is a publicly debated object between building scandal, ghetto and turbulent center of crime, but it is also a center of attraction and emblem of the “Kotti”. It was built in the 1960s and was part of a big large-scale project within the growing urban city of Berlin. It is one of the first privately financed house building project, lifted by the broadminded subvention and depreciation politics that time. It grew as private enrichment, always turning into new forms, eventually ending up due to a bank scandal, turning responsible persons into debitors. At the same time the Zentrum Kreuzberg gained popularity as a brand of Berlin.
