Wise River to Butte was one brutal day. Just getting to the base of Fleecer Ridge involved some tricky riding and climbing, but climbing the south side of Fleecer Ridge was just a long painful grind, shuttling bags and bike in stages for two and a half hours. Fleecer Ridge is a 1000' climb in just under a mile on a rocky double track, and I've read that someone measured a section of it at 38% grade.
After an all too short descent off the ridge, I had another steep two hour climb to get over another Continental Divide crossing before dropping into Butte. It was tough. It was beautiful.
