A dashboard is not the software, but the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) you choose which align a high level strategy with the ay-to-day activities of a company. Every department with more than five people needs its own dashboard typically and any corporation with more than about a dozen people needs a corporate dashboard to roll up the numbers from each department. Only highly experience executives have the skills to design a dashboard, as it can and will be "gamed" by employees if it is not properly designed.
