This was shown on 3 'surround' screens in 5.1 in Akihabara, Tokyo for a Symnatec/Norton press promo event. The gap at 4-4.30 was a buffer period during which a 15 min. live stage presentation took place.
All audio/main stereo mix was produced by myself at home using Ableton Live exclusively and improvising to the silent video timeline, rendered to stereo stems and mixed down into 5.1. Process-wise I watched it and started dropping markers for sound events, followed by digging through samples and making sounds in various categories which were then dropped along the timeline and nudged to fit. Nearly all sounds are heavily layered and crossfaded to achieve the correct impact and timing, but beyond eq relatively few plugins were used. Not surprisingly once I started putting the sound to picture it really started to come to life and I ended up adding more and more and more. All in all the sound was probably 2.5 days work.
Tailored for a 5.1 theatre I made sure there was healthy sub and rumble and at the theatre pre-pro made sure it was played back LOUD! Suggest you do the same :)
Client most satisfied by all accounts.
