This video/slideshow shows GoPro footage of the flight from Homer to Hallo Bay, and photographs taken during two visits during early July 2013. This area is apparently the same as that seen in the BBC*s last documentary on brown bears (May 2013), and a Disney crew was busy making their silver screen version. The flights down to Hallo Bay were worth the money themselves, fantastic landscape. Bear viewing was unbelievable and the guiding superb, we would approach the bears to a safe distance then they would slowly graze over to inspect us! Hearing them rip the grass was fantastic! We saw claming on the beach, but there was no salmon run at the time (it varies from year to year). The guides where very professional and where able to keep mixed groups of people together as one group and jaw dropped. It was not about running and splashing bears, it was about intimacy, awe and fantastic photo opportunities (AWAY from the hustle and bustle of Brooks Falls). I went with an outfit called Alaska Bear Adventures run and owned by locals in Homer. very helpful and professional but still able to give you that personal feeling. Equipment: GoPro Hero2 HD, Canon 7D and 6D with 400mm f2.8L and 70-200mm f2.8L and a small Canon S90 for aerial shots. I would recommend skipping the fixed focal length 400mm in favor of a 100-400mm zoom lens instead.
