Dr Bridget Vincent is an English and Theatre Studies Research Fellow within the School of Culture and Communication at The University of Melbourne.
The English and Theatre Studies program at the University of Melbourne is recognised nationally and internationally for its innovative teaching, scholarship and research; in 2013, English Language and Literature at Melbourne was ranked 13 by the QS world university rankings.
English and Theatre Studies is a combined program, and students can specialise in either area. It offers studies across a wide range of literary and theatrical texts, focusing on how these work as imaginative encounters with the world. It encourages research into literary histories and promotes an ongoing engagement with the literary present; it asks students to relate literary and performative texts to their own lives and to situate them in the framework of key ideas and practices.
The program is taught by staff who are prominent researchers in their areas of expertise. Areas of study include:
*Medieval and Early Modern literature
*Romantic and Victorian literature
*Modernism and contemporary literature
*Literature and other media
*Australian and American literatures
*Theatre, dramaturgy and performance
*Literature and social and cultural theory
The program also has strong connections to the Australian Centre, the Research Unit in Public Cultures and the Centre for the History of Emotions. It regularly holds symposia and conferences and showcases the work of visiting researchers.
