A self-styled "Campaign Guru" is accused of funneling half a million dollars into local campaigns and plotting to fire San Diego's current Police Chief then pick the new one. 41-year-old Ravneet Singh owner ElectionMall Inc. was arrested on Friday by the FBI and was in a San Diego’s federal court yesterday. Former San Diego Police Detective Ernesto Encinas is also named in the complaint and accused of working with Signh. The government says that Encinas oversaw the security of the person referred to as the "the foreign national" in the complaint. The government alleges that from 2011 to 2013 Signh and Encinas helped the foreigner donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to a string of candidates. Including the San Diego's 2012 mayoral election and the 2013 special election for mayor. While Singh was officially accused in court it’s not yet known if Encinas's will be accused as well.
