This animation is based on a photogrammetry capture session of the sand tufa formations at Mono Lake, CA. Nearly one thousand witness images were taken to create these models, which were then processed in Autodesk ReCap360 software. CGI figures, sculptures, and mist were added to manipulate scale. The HDR timelapsed sunset capture was a rare and classic occurrence of the Sierra Nevada wave, a high altitude lenticular cloud that forms in very high winds aloft and can span the length of the range. We have also rendered this at 8k resolution for immersive fulldome theatre format, as well as spherically for the Oculus Rift, scalability being one of many advantages of using photogrammetry as a basis for creative scenes.
