A great deal of time was spent repairing damage from a broken off sodium exhaust valve, lost at high RPM, and a complete rebuild back to the factory prepared race spec's. A Factory built "Competition Daytona", still used in anger on the race track, no stone could be left unturned!
The engine was brought up to full operating temperature by heating and circulating both the coolant and oil throughout the entire engine for three hours, prior to the starter ever being engaged for the first time. Already expanded to its operating clearances, burnishing of bearings is all but eliminated with this procedure... there is sound reason the Factory did it, no different than ourselves
