In 2007 the Nepal Supreme Court approved a Third Gender Citizenship, the “Others”. Despite that, they are marginalized, face intense discrimination and experience grave difficulties integrating into society.
Anusha Lama is 20 years old and became a transgender about a year ago. When she was young she surrounded herself with girls rather than boys. At 15, she read an article about same sex marriage in the West, and it was then that she realized she too can make a choice.
Today, many have little choice when it comes to making a living. Although living as the “Others” is not an easy choice, Anusha’s family’s acceptance has given her a silver lining amidst prejudice and discrimination.
