Every Wi-Fi router today and soon every cellphone and mobile device will use technology pioneered by Stanford Professor Emeritus Arogyaswami Paulraj, this year’s winner of the prestigious Marconi Prize for MIMO multiple input multiple output wireless technology used in mobile phones, routers, laptops and tablets. It’s in Apple’s iPad today; in the future it will drive high speed 5G WIFI on mobile devices.
Paulraj is the third Stanford Professor to win the Marconi Prize named for Guglielmo Marconi inventor of wireless radio.
Today Paulraj’s work is increasing the speed of wireless communication, leading to 5G and wireless technologies two to four times faster in the near future.
He will donate a portion of the $100,000 prize to student organizations including the Marconi Young Scholars program.
