How can you support Street Child World Cup? Share this video with your friends, family and colleagues - help us amplify the voices of street children.
#Team Burundi is using football and the Street Child World Cup to unite a nation suffering from conflict and ethnic polarization having recently emerged from a 15 year civil war.
Our partner project New Generation Burundi looks after street children, many of whom have lost their parents due to the war. New Generation works hard to instill an ethos of reconciliation providing a foundation for these young people to play an active role in uniting the country and becoming the new generation of leaders.
New Generation has responded to a lack of social protection and care for street children in Burundi by providing homes, education, leadership training, health programmes, skills training, and, eventually, re-integration into the communities from which they came.
"The reason we started New Generation was to see how young people, especially the street children, can work together and make our country better than it was [during the war]." Dieudonné Nahimana, founder of New Generation
#TeamBurundi are heading to the Street Child World Cup as ambassadors of change, supported by Burundi's Government, challenging negative perceptions about street children in not only Burundi, but across the world.
